Internal threats from employees, contractors and other people within your company are also a serious point of weakness when it comes to data security.

    While it’s true that it’s rare for an employee to leak sensitive data on purpose — though it does definitely happen — most of the internal threats are actually accidental. Verizon’s Data Breach Investigations report for 2023 found that 74% of all breaches included some kind of human element, such as making errors or mistakes and falling for social engineering scams.
