It goes without saying: Business ecosystems are increasingly complex, and so are the cybersecurity systems and strategies deployed to protect them. But Marty McDonald of Optiv and Rob Rachwald of Palo Alto Networks share new ideas on how to take some of the complexity out of cybersecurity.
In an interview with ISMG, McDonald and Rachwald discussed:
- Complexity and its associated challenges;
- Best of breed vs. platform;
- New strategies and solutions for simplification.
McDonald is a subject matter expert in the design and implementation of security incident and event management (SIEM) systems and is well versed in creating detection mechanisms that enhance security operation centers and compliance effectiveness. He has 20 years of deep cyber security industry experience gained from a variety of value-added resellers and solutions integrators. Prior roles include Senior Consultant in Security Intelligence for Datalink and Senior Consultant in the Technology Solutions Delivery organization at Accenture.
Rachwald has been in cybersecurity for more than 20 years including two IPOs and six acquisitions. Currently, he manages portfolio strategy for Palo Alto Networks. He joined Palo Alto Networks through the acquisition of Expanse in 2020. Prior to Expanse, he led marketing at several startups including ShieldX (acquired by Fortinet), RedOwl (acquired by Fortinet) and also helped take FireEye and Imperva public.
