Friday Squid Blogging: Squid Mating Strategies
Some squids are “consorts,” others are “sneakers.” The species is healthiest when individuals have different strategies randomly.
As usual, you can also use this squid post to talk about the security stories in the news that I haven’t covered.
Read my blog posting guidelines here.

Turia
A Roman Woman’s Civil War
Josiah Osgood
Oxford University PressTuria: A Roman Woman’s Civil War will appeal to those interested in Roman history as well as war, and the ways that war upsets society’s power structures. Not only does the study come to terms with the distinctive experience of a larger group of Roman women, including the prudence they had to show to succeed , but also introduces readers to an extraordinary tribute to married love which, though from another world, speaks to us today.

Army Wife — Richard Stilgoe
HIM/ Mary believes the best possible life
Is the life of a regular officer’s wife.
HER/ Peter believes that I’ve loved every minute
I hate it. The Army and everything in it.(Continues…)
There’s lots of conflict and misery in the world. Here’s some love and humour which speaks of the often untold stories.

Another out of the blue attack from a name nobody has seen before. Possible sockpuppet and part of rolling attacks by pop up new names over the past two weeks.
I’m sure male orientated books on war and bawdy autobiographical jokes wouldn’t raise an eyebrow.
I’m emotionally fatigued because of reading other material and don’t have the energy to write a page explaining why people might find the perspectives interesting or thought provoking or amusing. If anyone wants to be picky it’s especially pertinent given some of the geopolitical and national and institutional and personal security issues sloshing around at the moment. I thought I’d leave it without expectation or judgement to the reader to find their own relevance and likes/dislikes about the material.

Army Wife — Richard Stilgoe
This is from Joni Mitchell’s ‘The hissing of summer lawns’, 1975.
…
He gave her his darkness to regret
And good reason to quit him
He gave her a roomful of Chippendale
That nobody sits in
Still she stays with a love of some kind
It’s the lady’s choice
The hissing of summer lawns
Don’t know your taste for music, but this song is on my top 10 of all times.

Proof that someone is still not learning,
“I’m sure male orientated books on war and bawdy autobiographical jokes wouldn’t raise an eyebrow.”
Fit’s right in with the oft repeated accusations “they” make that this blogs readers/posters are misogynists.
The readers/posters here are not, nor can the use of transphobe or any other such prejudicial slur be used by someone who incorrectly thinks such prejudicial statments can be hurled around without being rightfully called on it.

@echo, all:
I have been posting (irregularly, infrequently) using this handle for some years now. You have even replied positively to (at least) one of my comments (I don’t keep count).
I believe your post to be sufficiently off topic that my comment is justified: it is minimal, accurate (IMO), inoffensive and well within the blog posting guidelines cited above. I stand by it. This blog and the comments BTL – especially the Friday editions – are habitually wide ranging, but as Bruce explicitly says in the intro:
“you can also use this squid post to talk about the security stories in the news”.
I think it would be a shame if the security issues discussed BTL get derailed by more and more generalised matters.
I will not engage further with this discussion.

@Robin, Echo of past arising
Well, one thing is for sure. It looks like the book does relate to mating strategies.
The second chapter moves to the most important event in „Turia’s” life ‒ her getting married. The engagement of the couple does not seem to have a very happy beginning though for Gn…. The future husband, who belonged to the Pompeian party, was in need of his fiancée’s support in providing money and in protecting all of his financial and family matters even though the woman was still not officially his wife. In the end, the wife-to-be emerges victorious from all the turbulent events: she protects her own life, her future husband’s family and his estates/fortune from the marauders of Milo.
