Cisco on Wednesday announced that it’s acquiring California-based cybersecurity firm Armorblox for its artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
Armorblox specializes in protecting organizations against threats that arrive over email and other cloud office applications. The company’s products are powered by natural language understanding (NLU) technology, which enables human-computer interaction through text or speech.
Cisco said it wants to use the newly acquired technology for more than just email security products.
“We see many exciting broad security use cases and possibilities to unlock,” Cisco said. “Leveraging Armorblox’s use of Predictive and Generative AI across our portfolio, we will change the way our customers understand and interact with their security control points. From enhanced attack prediction, to rapid threat detection, to efficient policy enforcement – there are near-limitless ways to improve today’s security experience.”
Financial terms have not been disclosed. Cisco said it expects the deal to close by the end of its fourth fiscal quarter.
The Armorblox team will join Cisco’s Security Business Group.
Armorblox emerged from stealth mode in February 2019 and it has raised a total of $46.5 million. On its website, Armorblox claims to have protected more than 58,000 organizations around the world.
News of this acquisition comes shortly after Cisco announced buying cloud network security firm Valtix and cloud security company Lightspin for a reported $200-250 million.
