The report “Cybersecurity Futures 2030” presents findings from a global research initiative focused on exploring the evolution of digital security over the next five to seven years. The goal of this project is to shape a future-focused research and policy agenda applicable across countries and sectors. The research initiative, a collaboration between the UC Berkeley Center for Long-Term Cybersecurity (CLTC), the World Economic Forum Centre for Cybersecurity, and CNA’s Institute for Public Research, aims to inform cybersecurity strategic plans globally.

Through in-person workshops held in various international locations and a virtual workshop, participants discussed four fictional scenarios depicting potential “cybersecurity futures” in 2030. These scenarios were designed to explore trade-offs in goals and values that decision-makers will face in the near future. The report emphasizes the importance of understanding how systemic cybersecurity challenges are experienced and addressed in different regions worldwide.

The workshops aimed to uncover insights that can guide leaders from diverse geographies and sectors in preparing for the digital security landscape of 2030 and beyond. Common strengths and vulnerabilities identified by participants include the need for stable and secure supply chains, skilled workers, and resilience against social, economic, environmental, and political volatility. Objectives highlighted for mitigating risks and seizing opportunities in digital security include investing in talent, education, and collaboration to combat cyber threats effectively.

The report underscores the significance of collaboration between industry, government, and civil society to securely harness technological progress and ensure a more secure and inclusive digital future. It acknowledges the contributions of experts, organizations, and corporate partners in shaping the insights presented in the report. The findings aim to assist decision-makers in government, industry, academia, and civil society in navigating the evolving digital security landscape and making informed strategic decisions.

In conclusion, the report emphasizes the need for proactive measures to address cybersecurity challenges, foster trust, and promote digital resilience. It calls for continued dialogue, action, and collective efforts to build a more secure digital environment for the future. The insights and recommendations provided in the report serve as a foundation for shaping cybersecurity strategies and policies to meet the challenges of the digital age.
