Veteran cybersecurity executive Adrian Stone has been tapped to steer the security ship at pharmaceutical and biotechnology giant Moderna.
Stone, a well-known cybersecurity practitioner who did leadership stints at Microsoft, Amazon and Peloton, joins the Mass.-based healthcare company to work on securing Moderna’s corporate data and systems.
In his role as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), Moderna said Stone “will focus on protecting the security and integrity of our corporate data and systems from cyber threats to maintain the trust our patients place in Moderna.”
Moderna said Stone’s security organization will collaborate across the company “to help ensure that cyber security is core to how we operate and build technologies.”
Stone joins Moderna at a crucial time for multinational healthcare companies that face sustained malware campaigns from APT actors, some in the nation-state category.
In recent years, there have been documented attacks targeting COVID-19 data and Moderna is in a category of companies dealing with corporate-espionage malware campaigns targeting sensitive data and intellectual property.
Prior to joining Moderna, Stone served as Peloton’s first ever CISO and worked for two years to scale the company’s risk mitigation and security program. At Peloton, Stone was tasked with securing Peloton’s sensitive data, IT Infrastructure, live services, hardware product development and manufacturing capabilities.
Stone also served in leadership roles at Electronic Arts, Amazon and BlackBerry.
