Finding the Value in Generative AI; Blockchain’s Decline and Fall

Generative AI is the biggest topic at RSA Conference, but the conversation is moving from the buzz about ChapGPT to how to find value in AI as a way to increase the efficacy of detection. As Michael Novinson, managing editor, business at Information Security Media Group, said, ChatGPT “can sing us songs and write us poems, and that’s fun and that’s consumer, but what does it actually mean in the context of cyber?”

The annual RSA Cryptographer’s Panel held on Tuesday also grappled with generative AI, noted Mathew Schwartz, executive editor of DataBreachToday and Europe at ISMG. Panelist Adi Shamir, a professor of computer science at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel, is “extremely concerned” about generative AI being able to “sound human” – especially “given the gullibility of humans,” he said.
Schwartz, Novinson and Anna Delaney, director of productions at ISMG, also discuss:
- Coming to terms with how to use generative AI, how attackers will use it and how to secure it – with AI;
- The decline and fall of blockchain, as evidenced by the absence of once-common bullishness in the field;
- Whether crypto systems will be quantum-resistant – and which users will require that feature.
